China: controls of food safeguards

Chinese authorities have launched a domestic campaign for food safeguards that foresees the “most severe” supervision of the food producing sector and the “most intransigent” sanctions against violations in this field.  The crackdown in place from September 2019 to December 2020 was decided by the People’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the State Administration for Market for Market Regulation and the National Medical Products Administration.  The People’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, during a press conference, stated that the campaign is concentrated on food safeguards with regard to schools, wholesale food markets, logistics centres of food refrigeration.  The initiative will include drugs, food and baby foods sold on social media.
