EU: major exporters and importers of agri-food products

The Euro Commission report on “Agri-food trade in 2017”, published yesterday confirms that the European Union is the world’s top exporter and importer of cultivated vegetables.
In 2017, the export from the EU of agri-food products reached 138 billion euros, with an annual growth of 5.1%, whereas imports of the same reached 117 billion euros.
Therefore, commercial surplus was equal to 21 billion euros.
Europe’s Agricultural Commissioner, Phil Hogan, expressed satisfaction over such results, credited them to the global reputation of EU products in terms of safety, quality, nutritious value and sustainability.
The report also remarks on the fact that EU exports are on the up in the main five markets: United States, China, Switzerland, Russia and Japan.
