Hungary: the financing of irrigation
The country’s Ministry of Agriculture has informed that between 2020 and 2030 170 billion florins (roughly 500 million euro) will be destined for the development of irrigation systems. During the period 2010-18 agriculture figures grew by 33% and exports by 49%. The main challenges – climate change, increase in average temperatures, not accompanied by an increase in rainfall – makes it necessary to increase intelligent farming with regards to climate. According to previsions, the world’s population will grow by nine billion by 2050, and Hungary should be able to supply 20-25 million people with basic food needs, as opposed to the current 15 million.
