Qu Dongyu nominated Director General of FAO
The new Director General of FAO is Chinese Qu Dongyu, 55 years of age, biologist and Deputy Minister of his country’s Ministry of Agriculture, elected with 108 votes from 191.
Rumour speaks of an “aggressive campaign” by China and debts with FAO cancelled or reduced for diverse States.
Others sustain that Qu Dongyu was supported by the African States where China has important investments, both present and probably in the future too.
